About Goalzly: why we built a goal app that finishes what it starts
Goalzly is a goal and habit tracker for iPhone and Apple Watch, built by one indie maker for people who want their daily effort to add up to something specific. This page explains what we believe, how the app works, and how we write our guides.

Consistency is only useful when it points at a goal.
Plenty of apps are excellent at logging activity — a habit chain, a check-box, a clean weekly graph. What they rarely tell you is whether all that showing up is actually moving you toward the thing you set out to achieve. So the streak keeps growing while the goal quietly stalls, and eventually both are abandoned.
Goalzly is built around a single idea: every day of consistency should attach to one specific goal. You set one yearly goal, break it into twelve monthly targets and small daily tasks, and let your streak, focus sessions, and weekly review all measure progress toward that one thing. This page is where we explain that thinking honestly — no invented numbers, no borrowed hype, just what the app is and why it exists.
Why we built it
Most habit and task apps are very good at one thing: recording that something happened. You tick the box, the streak grows, the chart fills in. That feedback feels great, and for small routines it is often enough.
The problem shows up with bigger goals — learn a language, ship a project, train for a race. These do not fail because you stopped being busy. They fail because daily activity and long-term direction drift apart: you keep showing up, but nothing tells you whether all that showing up is closing the gap to the goal you actually wrote down.
Our thesis is simple. Consistency has to be connected to a specific goal to be worth anything. A streak should not just prove you did something today; it should prove you moved one named goal forward. That single connection is the thing most trackers leave out, and it is the thing Goalzly is built to put back.
Our philosophy
One goal at a time. Focus is a decision about what you will not do. Goalzly asks for one yearly goal so your attention has somewhere clear to land, instead of being split across a dozen half-tracked ambitions.
Plan, do, close — once a day. The whole app runs on a small daily loop: decide the next step, do it, and close the day. A Today Strip always shows your one next step, so momentum never depends on remembering what mattered.
Systems over motivation. Motivation is unreliable, and we do not design around it. We design the structure — yearly goal to monthly target to daily task — so that on a flat day you still know exactly what to do next.
Forgiving by design. Progress is not a clean line, so the streak follows your local day and includes streak freezes for the days life gets loud. Missing a day is a bump, not a reset to zero — the goal stays intact either way.
How Goalzly works
You start with one yearly goal. Goalzly breaks it into twelve monthly targets and small daily tasks, so every morning begins with a concrete next step instead of a blank page. Daily Pace shows whether you are ahead or behind that yearly goal, months in advance, so you can adjust while there is still time.
When a task needs real concentration, the Focus Timer runs a Pomodoro-style deep-work session that lives on your Lock Screen, in the Dynamic Island, and on your Apple Watch — and those sessions count toward your yearly goal. Streaks sit on your goal card from day one, with milestones and freezes.
In the background, Day Balance measures how much of your day went to goal work (signal) versus everything else (noise), with no manual time logging. And every week, Week Wrapped turns the week into a short, story-style review — wins, numbers, streak — then asks two reflection questions and sets next week’s intention.
Our methodology: how we write these guides
Everything we publish is meant to be genuinely useful and genuinely true. Where we describe methods for setting or pursuing goals, we build on established, well-documented frameworks — such as SMART goal criteria and the Pomodoro Technique for focused work — rather than inventing our own science.
We do not fabricate statistics, study results, user counts, ratings, or reviews. If we cannot stand behind a number, we leave it out. When we describe how Goalzly behaves, we describe features that actually ship in the app, and nothing else.
Our writing is product-led: the goal is to help you think clearly and act, and where Goalzly is a good fit we say so plainly. And because the app keeps evolving, we update these pages as features change — the “Updated” date on each guide reflects the last meaningful revision.
Privacy and trust
Your goals are personal, and we treat them that way. Goalzly shows no ads, does no ad tracking, and never sells your data — we are not in the business of profiling you or selling attention. We do use privacy-respecting analytics (Firebase Analytics and Hotjar) on our website to understand how it is used and improve it, never to advertise to you; the details are in our Privacy Policy.
Your account data is hosted in the EU, and you stay in control of it. If you decide to leave, you can delete your account completely from inside the app; there is no support ticket to file and no dark pattern to fight through.
Billing is handled by Apple through the App Store. Goalzly is free to download, with an optional Goalzly Premium subscription and a free trial, so payment details go to Apple — not to us.
Built by one maker
Goalzly is an independent app, built and maintained by one indie maker rather than a large team or a growth department. That constraint shapes the product: fewer features, chosen carefully, each one earning its place in the daily loop.
It is built for people who finish what they start — who would rather make steady progress on one goal that matters than collect trackers they never open again. If that is you, Goalzly was made with you in mind.
The principles we build on
Four commitments that shape every screen in Goalzly.
One goal at a time
We ask for a single yearly goal on purpose. Focus is what makes daily effort compound, so the whole app is organised around one destination rather than a scattered list.
Execution over collection
Tracking is not the point; finishing is. Goalzly favours a small daily loop — plan, do, close — over dashboards you admire but never act on.
Forgiving by design
Real progress is uneven. Local-day streaks, streak freezes, and milestones are built so a hard week is a setback, not a reason to quit.
Privacy by default
No ads, no ad tracking, and we never sell your data. Account data is EU-hosted with complete in-app account deletion. Your goals stay yours.

Is my data sold or used for advertising?
No. Goalzly shows no ads, does not track you for advertising, and we never sell your data. To improve our website we use privacy-respecting analytics (Firebase Analytics and Hotjar) that measure usage but are never used for ads or profiling — see our Privacy Policy. Your account data is hosted in the EU, and you can delete your account completely from inside the app.
What platforms does Goalzly run on?
Goalzly runs on iPhone (iOS 18 and later) with a companion Apple Watch app. Focus Timer sessions mirror live to your wrist, and there are widgets and Live Activities for quick access.
Is Goalzly free?
Goalzly is free to download and use for core goal tracking. An optional Goalzly Premium subscription with a free trial unlocks the full experience, and billing is handled by Apple through the App Store.
How do you write your guides — are the stats real?
We never invent statistics, studies, reviews, or user numbers, and we leave out anything we cannot stand behind. Our guides build on established frameworks like SMART goals and the Pomodoro Technique, and we describe only features that actually ship in the app.
Frameworks we build on
- SMART criteria — The specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound framework behind how we think about setting a goal.
- Pomodoro Technique — The timed deep-work method that informs Goalzly’s Focus Timer.
